November: Tips & Tricks from deVivre

Giving Thanks on Thanksgiving for Those Who Came Before Us

#electionhangover is over.

We're past the denial (and depression).. have moved ever-so-slightly past the anger.. and we're onto bargaining and acceptance.

Whether you're looking to volunteer or donate for the holidays, or post-election, here are our tips & tricks for finding the right organization, foundation, or charity for you and yours, with inspiration from Man Repeller's Editorial Director Leslie Price:

Investing in Future Generations -- concerned about your children's (or niece and nephews', or friends' kids, or the children all over the world) futures in this crazy world? Here are our top picks: "The Future Project inspires young Americans to live lives of passion and purpose — and learn how to change the world."; Volunteer with or donate to KIND, who defend immigrant and refugee children with fair and quality legal services. Get involved with the It Gets Better Project which "communicates to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth around the world that it gets better, and to create and inspire the changes needed to make it better for them".

Film Buff? News Addict? Or do you just want to make sure that you're afforded your first amendment right? Donate to: The ACLU and NAACP who defend our rights as citizens every day. Buy subscriptions of: Politico, The New Yorker, The Guardian, The Atlantic, and/or PBS for each of your relatives.

A proud feminist? At deVivre, so are we! We recommend: Emily's List, where you can get involved in elections or support the organization through donations; RAINN, which supports victims of sexual assault through its broad programming -- not only is it "the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization [but it also] created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE) in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country...It also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help victims, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice."; NARAL embodies one of my favorite protests chants "MY BODY, MY CHOICE."
