WELCOME to our monthly rundown of some of the coolest events happening in NYC! Each month we at devivre Concierge will trawl the interwebs, to bring you some of the most unique and New-Yorky goings-on about town. Here are our top picks for January:

Sights:

Running through the end of this month at my new favorite art space in the city is the Kerry James Marshall retrospective at The Met Breuer. Encompassing nearly 80 works from his 35-year career. The first time I went to this space, I was taken aback by the selection of works. The concurrent exhibition Kerry James Marshall Selects, curated by the artist and including 40 works from the Met's collection that inspired and influenced his work, is bound to do the same for you.

Sounds:

A really cool way to get behind the scenes in NYC is by checking out a Sofar Sounds gig. These intimate performances happen in people's apartments and lesser known spaces all over the world and help local artists get exposure and stage time while giving you the opportunity to see some live music in your own backyard. You can also try your luck applying for free tickets.

Learn:

The Society for the Advancement of Social Studies puts on free lectures one Tuesday each month in the back room of The Bedford in Bushwick. This month's lecture is on Unsung Heroines of History, where you can expect to learn about lesser known ladies who helped shape history. Topics include 'Unsung Partners' and 'Female Renaissance Artists'.

Explore:

A fun way to get your get-out-of-the-city fix at this time of year without totally breaking the bank is by going Snow Tubing at one of the many ski resorts that you can drive to in a couple of hours from the city.
